Prisoner Rasoul Mohammadi’s death sentence was executed at the Karaj Central Penitentiary on 4 January.

Mohammadi, a 34-year-old father of two who came from the city of Nurabad in Iran’s western Lorestan province, was sentenced to death on drug-related charges about four years ago.

In addition, prisoners Rostam Abbaszadeh, Hamed Vafaei, Mehdi Askari, Abdolhossein Emami and Seyyed Jalal Hosseini, who are on death row for similar charges, have been transferred to solitary cells for execution.

The executions of these five prisoners will reportedly be carried out on the dawn of 5 January.
