Security forces in Marivan have arrested Kurdish poet and civil rights activist Aram Fathi at his house on the morning of 17 June and have taken him to an undisclosed location.

“This morning, security officers have gone to Aram Fathi’s house in two cars and have claimed that they had an arrest warrant”, a relative of the poet told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

“After entering the house, officers have resorted to violence upon the objection of Aram’s mother.”

The relative added that after searching the house, the officers have confiscated Fathi’s personal belongings, including his laptop, mobile phone, and books.

As of writing of this report, it is not known which security institution and on what charges has arrested the activist.

The literary and civil rights activist has a history of membership in the Rumi and Vazhin literary associations as well as the Sabz Chiya environmental association.

Security forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Ministry of Intelligence have summoned and arrested the activist several times in recent years in connection with his activities.

Reportedly, they have seized his passport during his last arrest in January 2020 and have banned him from leaving the country.
