A Kurdish civilian identified as Zanyar Mohammadnezhad was arrested on 16 September during a protest rally in front of Kasra Hospital in Tehran after Mahsa (Zhina) Amini passed away.

Mohammadnezhad, who comes from Sanandaj in Kurdistan province and resides in Tehran, was taken to an undisclosed location.

After his arrest, Mohammadnezhad informed his family in a brief phone call that he had been arrested by security police forces and was being taken to an unknown location in a van along with several other civilians.

On 16 September, Amini died after being hospitalized for three days in the intensive care unit of Kasra Hospital in Tehran.

On 13 September, she was arrested by the morality police during her trip to Tehran because of her hijab.

She was then transferred to the detention centre of the morality police on Vozara Street.

Two hours after she was transferred to Kasra Hospital, the doctors announced her heart attack and brain death.

Her family members and civilians gathered outside the hospital after the news of her death to pay their respect and protest. Security forces attacked the gathering and arrested several people.
