Mehraneh Moradi, a detained teacher and resident of Sanandaj, was temporarily released on bail after 40 days while her husband, Karim Asghari, was arrested by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) in Sanandaj only three days after her release.

Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has been informed that, following a new wave of arrests of civilians and civil activists, IRGC forces arrested a civilian activist known as Karim Asghari in Sanandaj on Wednesday, Nov 13 and transferred him to the detention centre of the Ministry of Intelligence in Sanandaj.

This activist was only arrested three days after the release of his wife, Mehraneh Moradi, who had been detained by the IRGC earlier on Sept 25.

Mehraneh Moradi, a teacher and a Kung Fu martial arts champion, was seized along with her 6-year-old son by intelligence forces in Sanandaj on Sept 25. She was transferred to the detention centre of the Ministry of Intelligence in Sanandaj but the security forces delivered her son to her husband on the same day. She was interrogated for about 40 days in solitary confinement.

After being interrogated, she was transferred to the Correctional Center. She was temporarily released on bail of 200 million Tomans on Nov 9, 2008 until her trial.

More than 10 civilians and activists from different cities of Kurdistan, who have been arrested by the IRGC during the past two months, are currently interrogated in solitary confinement cells.
