Branch 2 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Shahriar county, Tehran province, has sentenced Heydar Ghorbani, a labor activist and a member of the Free Trade Union of Iran, to a total of 11 years in prison on charges of “membership in a group or society, or a branch of societies formed within the country with the aim of disrupting national security” and “propaganda against the state”.

A source familiar with Ghorbani’s case spoke to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) and said: “Heydar Ghorbani has been informed of the verdict through the judiciary’s Sana system in the past days. The activist’s trial was held some time ago in the presence of his lawyer in Branch 2 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Shahriar county.”

Heydar Ghorbani, who comes from Kamyaran, Kurdistan province, was arrested by security forces in the city of Qods in Tehran province on 7 June 2020 and was released on bail after 23 days of interrogation in Ward 209 of Tehran’s Evin Prison.
