Kurdish athlete Reza Ramezani who was arrested by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corp (IRGC) on July 1, 2020, has been transferred from the detention centre of this security-military institution to Dizelabad Prison in Kermanshah.

According to IRNA news agency quoting the Kermanshah General Directorate of Justice Public Relations, IRGC identified and arrested people on the charge of “propaganda activities against the state” and “insulting the sanctities of Islam” in Eslamabade Qarb during two operations on July 2.

“On July 1, dozens of IRGC agents surrounded Mr Ramezani’s family home in Eslamabade Qarb, arrested him, and transferred him to the IRGC Nabi Akram detention centre in Kermanshah.”, a source close to Reza Ramezani told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network.

According to this source, this detained civilian was physically and mentally tortured by interrogators on charges of “propaganda against Islam and the state” until Wednesday, July 22, 2020, after which he was transferred to Dizelabad Prison in Kermanshah.”Security interrogators have considered the civilian’s live broadcasts on the social network Instagram regarding current issues as an insult to Islam and the stat. Therefore, a case has been filed against him.”, the source added.

The source announced the extension of the detention of Ramezani for another month and further stated that he could not be released on a bail until the end of these two months.”

Reza Ramezani is a Kurdish athlete and horse breeder in Eslamabade Qarb and holds several national equestrian ranks.
