Prisoner Mikaeil Moeini has gone on a hunger strike in Bukan Prison on 16 May in protest of the increase in the amount of bail for his temporary release, sources told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

Moeini, who comes from Bukan, was granted temporary leave last year on a bail of 150 million Iranian Tomans – nearly 6,000 USD. However, a few months ago, with the order of the public prosecutor of Bukan, this amount was increased to 300 million Toman. He was also moved from open prison to closed prison.

The prisoner had been sentenced to five years in prison for drug offenses and has been serving his sentence in Bukan Prison for 28 months.

He had previously gone on a hunger strike for eight days in April this year, ending his strike with the favourable promise of prison officials.
