The ruling of two citizens from Saqqez and a detained citizen of Kamyaran were reduced by the court of appeals.

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has been informed that the Court of Appeals (branch 4) has reduced the sentence of eighteen million Rials of fine and fifty lashes issued by the Criminal Court of Saqqez in regards to two citizens called “Zamaneh Zivia” and “Manaz Mlawiseh” to eighteen million rials in the past few days.

The two citizens were arrested at their homes for three days by security forces at home in November 2017 following the street celebrations in support of the Iraqi Kurdistan Independence referendum. They were kept for three days at Intelligence Ministry’s Detention Centre in the city of Saghez before being released on a bail of 80 million Tomans. They were sentenced to a fine of “50 lashes” and “eighteen million rials in November last year on charges of “disturbing public order” by Saqqez Criminal Court.

Moreover, the five-year prison sentence for a detained citizen called “Iqbal Ghobadi” from Kamyaran was reduced to two years by the Sanandaj Court of Appeals. This Kurdish citizen was arrested by security forces in November 2017, along with two other citizens called “Hiwa Nadimi” and “Kiamars Nedimi”.

The other two detainees were released on bail after four months. However, after being transferred to the Sanandaj Central Prison, Iqbal Ghobadi was sentenced to five years in prison by the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court (branch 1) on charges of acting against national security.
