Orumiyeh Central Prison officers have insulted and beaten Kurdish political prisoner Kamran Ghasemi on 26 June during his family visit.

Ghasemi has been serving a sentence of 10 year and one day in Orumiyeh.

A source that spoke to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) said that prison officers insulted and disrespected Ghasemi’s family during their visit, which led to a reaction by the political prisoner. They then beat him in the presence of his family.

Prison authorities also took his family out with a degrading treatment.

After the prisoner’s return to the ward for political prisoners and while the prison head Sohrabi was present in front of the ward for political prisoners, some prisoners for dangerous crimes threatened the political prisoners for any future objection in prison.

Reportedly, the head of Orumiyeh Central Prison has used prisoners for dangerous crimes many times before to prevent political prisoners from protesting.

Security forces had arrested Kamran Ghasemi, a civilian from Orumiyeh, on 8 October 2019. They then transferred him to the detention centre of the Ministry of Intelligence in Orumiyeh.

After a month of interrogation in the detention centre of the intelligence ministry, he was transferred to Orumiyeh Central Prison.

In December 2020, Branch 2 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Orumiyeh sentenced Ghasemi, and two other civilians named Keyvan Rashozadeh and Omid Saeidi to 10 years and one day in prison on charges of “acting against national security” through membership in the Komalah.
