Kurdish political prisoner Behrouz Alkhani has been executed with five other prisoners in OrBehrouzumiyeh prison, a source based at the same prison confirmed.

According to the source, Alkhani was called on 25 August from ward 12 to the guard office of the prison to supposedly receive a post package, but he was handcuffed and transferred to solitary confinement no. 7, where he was told that he would be transferred to another prison.

His family members went to the prison immediately after they heard the news of his supposed transfer and insisted that they meet their son.

Prison officials allowed his family members to meet him for the last time and it was at the meeting Alkhani finally realised that he was going to be executed, the source said.

The source said that Alkhani’s relatives had gathered outside the prison until late evening of the same day, but they were attacked by security forces and forced to leave the area.

Protest in front of prisonThe protesters regrouped then had gathered in a street next to the prison, but security forces repeatedly attacked them and threatened to arrest those who would continue to protest.

At 2300 local time on 25 August with the insistence of the political prisoners of ward 12, officials agreed that Sayed Sami Hosseini meet Alkhani as a repress native of the other prisoners.

Hosseini met Alkhani for several minutes and he told him to inform his family members not to worry about him.

He had said that he knew he was going to be executed but insisted that he was innocent.

Alkhani with five other prisoners were finally executed in the prison yard of Oroumiyeh Prison at 0030 local time.

The source said the other prisoners were executed for drug charges and identified them by their first names as follows: Walafar, Fathi, Golshani and Qasimi.

The source said that the prison officials had said that thThe meme body would be delivered back to the family members only with a court order.

his family had gone to the Oroumiyeh Court and Intelligence Office but security forces had said that the body would not be delivered and warned them not to hold funeral ceremonies or speak with media outlets.

The prison officials have only provided his family a paper document, which confirms the execution.

Alkhani was born in 1985 in Salmas.

He was arrested in his hometown in January 2010.

He had been held in solitary confinement for more than a year without access to a lawyer or meeting his family members.

He was brutally tortured by Iranian intelligence officers in Salmas, Oroumiyeh and Khuy for over 19 months.

In 2011, he was convicted by an Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Court on charges of “effective collaboration with PJAK [Party of Free Life of Kurdistan]” and “enmity against God” (moharebeh) for his alleged role in the assassination of a prosecutor in Khoy, West Azerbaijan Province.

He was also sentenced to 10 years in prison in relation to the possession and procurement of arms.behrour2

His sentence was later overturned by the Supreme Court and sent back to Branch 10 of the Appeal Court of Orumiyeh Province for a retrial.

But the Appeal court once again sentenced Alkhani to death.

He appealed the sentence but never received a response.
