Six Kurdish civilians from the village of Pasveh in Piranshahr, West Azerbaijan Province, were imprisoned on 24 April for their involvement in the anti-government uprising of Women, Life, Freedom in 2022.

The individuals, identified as Ehsan Golabi, Aram Khaledi-Nasab, Alireza Mohammadi Arshad, Esmaeil Tajalla, Hiwa Mahmoudi, and Mohammad Ebrahimi, were initially arrested on 27 September 2022, and detained at the Ministry of Intelligence detention facility in Orumiyeh, West Azerbaijan Province.

After interrogation, they were transferred to Naqadeh Prison, in West Azerbaijan Province, and were temporarily released on bail on 30 October 2022.

The trial of the six individuals took place in October 2022 at Branch 102 of the Criminal Court Two of Piranshahr, and they were informed of their sentences in writing.

According to the verdicts, Mohammad Ebrahimi, 30, and Ehsan Golabi, 20, were each sentenced to a total of 14 years in prison for charges including “membership of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan”, “assembly and collusion against national security”, “propaganda against the state”, and “filming government buildings”. Under the Law on Consolidation of Sentences, five years of their sentences are enforceable.

Hiwa Mahmoudi was sentenced to two years in prison for “assembly and collusion against national security”.

Alireza Mohammadi Arshad, 23, Esmaeil Tajalla, 23, and Aram Khaledi-Nasab, 24, were each sentenced to a total of six years and eleven months in prison on charges including “membership in the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan”, “assembly and collusion against national security”, and “propaganda against the state”. Under the Law on Consolidation of Sentences, three years and seven months of their sentences are enforceable.
