Mehrshad Almasi, a 20-year-old civilian from Kermanshah, Kermanshah Province, was fatally shot by police during a chase near Tagh Bostan Square in the city on 8 October.

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that Almasi, who was riding a motorbike, was chased by a police patrol after he tried to evade the officers out of fear that his motorbike would be confiscated.

The officers opened fire on the young man, shooting him from behind and killing him at the scene.

The authorities returned Almasi’s body to his family on 10 October after an examination at the city’s forensic centre.

The young man was buried the same day in Mahmoud Abad, a village near Kermanshah.

In the days following the incident, security forces contacted Almasi’s family and warned them not to publish details of his death, KHRN has learned.

Almasi, a resident of Kermanshah’s Anahita neighbourhood, earned his living as a street vendor.
