A Kurdish civilian named Mohammad Houshangi, who has been arrested during the wave of arrests of Kurdish civilians and activists launched in January 2021, is still being held in temporary detention on the accusation of “membership in a Kurdish opposition group” and “propaganda against the state”, sources told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

Mohammad Houshangi, whose name had not previously been mentioned in the list of detainees, is being held in the detention centre of the Intelligence Organisation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) at Al-Mahdi base in Orumiyeh.

Four months after the mass arrests of Kurdish civilians and activists, a number of detainees are still being held in custody and pressed for making forced confessions in security detention centres or prisons of various cities.

Houshangi, who comes from Javanrud, Kurdistan province, was arrested by IRGC forces in Tehran on 10 January 2021 and was later transferred to the detention centre of the Intelligence Organisation of the IRGC in Orumiyeh.

Since his arrest, the Kurdish citizen has been deprived of the right to contact and visits by his family.

According to information obtained by the KHRN, the Kurdish citizen is being accused of “membership in a Kurdish opposition group” and “propaganda against the state”, in a joint case along with Sakar Eini, Farzad Samani, Darya Talebani, Sohaib Badrouj, Kamal Rahavi, Sirwan Ebrahimi, Asrin Mohammadi, and Zana Rostami.

Sakar Eini, Farzad Samani, Zana Rostami, and Mohammad Houshangi are still being held in the detention centre of the Intelligence Organisation of the IRGC in Orumiyeh, while the others have been temporarily released on bail.
