The death sentence of Arsalan Moradi, a prisoner who had been sentenced to death on charges of “transportation of drugs”, has been carried out in Birjand Prison.

Moradi was a Kurdish prisoner from the city of Divandarreh in Kurdistan province.

A source familiar with the prisoner’s case spoke to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) and said: “Arsalan Moradi was a truck driver and was arrested about three years ago on drug charges. He was not aware of any drug embedded in his vehicle and had denied any knowledge of it, but the court sentenced him to death without regard to these statements.”

Since beginning of 2021, at least five Kurdish civilians, including Arsalan Moradi, have been executed on drug charges in Orumiyeh and Birjand prisons.
