After the political parties and the civil society in Kurdistan called for public protests, people in the cities of Saqqez, Sanandaj, Baneh, Bukan, Piranshahr, Oshnavieh, Mahabad, Dehgolan, Divandarreh, Ravansar and Marivan started a general strike by closing down their businesses on 19 September.

Simultaneously, people went on the streets in the cities of Kermanshah, Saqqez, Bukan, Mahabad, Divandarreh, Kamyaran, Marivan, Sanandaj, Dehgolan, Qorveh, Takab, Bijar, and Paveh.

The armed officers of the Islamic Republic of Iran violently suppressed popular protests in many of these cities.

As a result of the officers shooting at the protesters, Kurdish civilians identified as Mohsen Mohammadi, in Divandarreh; Fereydoun Ahmadi, in Saqqez; and Reza Lotfi in Dehgolan were killed, and more than 85 people, including three children, were injured.

In addition, at least 200 people were arrested across these cities.

Mohammadi was taken to Kowsar Hospital in Sanandaj after being injured. His relatives reported that he died due to the severity of his injuries.

Reportedly, Fereydoun Ahmadi’s body, who was killed by anti-riot forces in Saqqez, has been transferred to Shefa Hospital in the city.

“The Basij forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) took part in suppressing the protestors as there were not many anti-riot forces available and the protests spread across various cities of Kurdistan”, said yesterday eyewitnesses from different cities of Kurdistan.

Some detainees suffered injuries and fractures due to severe beatings by the police and security forces.

They were taken to an unknown location by the forces without receiving medical treatment.

Reportedly, tight security measures were taken in the hospitals in these cities. Also, plainclothes forces controlled the entries to the hospital and interrogated the injured.

In addition, mobile phone internet lines have been cut off in many cities and home internet has also seen severe disruptions.
