Iran has carried out the death sentences of four prisoners in Orumiyeh, West Azerbaijan province on 31 December.

Prisoners Hamdollah Alemi, Hossein Abbaszadeh, Moghaddam Alizadeh, and Feizollah Ghorbani were executed in Orumiyeh Central Prison in the early hours of the day.

An Iranian court had sentenced the prisoners to “retribution in kind” (qisas) in accordance with the Iranian Islamic Penal Code on the accusation of “premeditated murder”.

On 29 December, the four prisoners were transferred to solitary confinement along with another prisoner, Rashid Vatandoust.

On 30 December, Vatandust was returned to the prison ward after his family was given a time of several months to pay the “blood money” to the victim’s family.
