The Intelligence Organisation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has been keeping in detention the Kurdish activist Mohammad Houshangi for five months. Until now, there has been no information available on his situation.
Forces of the Intelligence Organisation of the IRGC had arrested Houshangi on 10 January in Tehran, during the wave of arrests of Kurdish activists at the beginning of the year.
After arresting him, the IRGC intelligence forces took the activist to the institution’s 81 Ramadan detention centre in Orumiyeh. They have been denying him the right to family visits and phone calls.
“Mohammad Houshangi’s family had no information about their son for four months. During that time, the Intelligence Organisation of the IRGC in Javanrud once summoned and interrogated his family members”, said a relative of the activist in an interview with the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).
According to this source, in late May, after learning that their son had been taken to the detention centre of the Intelligence Organisation of the IRGC in its Al-Mahdi base in Orumiyeh, the family appealed to this military-security institution. After four months, they confirmed to have detained him.
“In the Al-Mahdi base, they told the family that he was still under interrogation and that it would not be possible to meet with him until next month. Security interrogators charged him with membership in a Kurdish opposition party, and his detention was extended for the sixth time some time ago.”
The 81 Ramadan detention centre operates under the Intelligence Protection Organization of the IRGC. According to the information gathered by the KHRN, it is one of the three security-military detention centres located in the Al-Mahdi base in Orumiyeh.
