New charges were filed against two political prisoners in Orumiyeh Prison, Ebrahim Khalil Siddiq Hamedani and Salar Khalil Siddiq Hamedani, this morning after being transferred to Branch 6 of the Orumiyeh Public and Revolutionary Court for “propaganda against the State.”

“The new charges against the two political prisoners include protests, hunger strikes and conversations with other prisoners about political issues.”, a reliable source in Orumiyeh told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) about the new case against this father and son.

Ebrahim and Salar Khalil Siddiq Hamedani have been under pressure from security agents who have interrogated them several times since their arrest in March 2017 and even after being sentenced and transferred to prison. During this time, they went on a three-day hunger strike in protest to the issuance of unjust sentences, their re-transfer from prison to the Ministry of Intelligence detention centre and not having access to medical care.

KHRN had previously reported that Ebrahim Khalil Siddiq Hamedani suffered from diabetes. According to the specialist, due to the limited medical and health facilities of the prison, he cannot withstand continuing imprisonment.

Security forces in Orumiyeh arrested Ebrahim Khalili Hamedani along with his two children Salar and Maryam (Mahsa) Khalili Hamadani on February 23, 2019. After two months of interrogations, they were taken from the Ministry of Intelligence Detention Centre in Orumiyeh to the Orumiyeh Central Prison. Maryam Khalili Hamadani was released on April 25 on a bail of 250 million Tomans while the other two members of the family are still held at the Psychiatric Ward of Orumiyeh Central Prison.

The trial of Ebrahim and Salar Khalil Siddiq Hamedani was held on September 18 at the Branch 2 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Orumiyeh, while they were denied the right to select their own lawyers.

The court eventually sentenced each of them to 15 years in prison for membership in the banned PMOI in addition to one-year imprisonment for propaganda against the state. The two civilians were each sentenced to three years in prison by Branch 3 of the Orumiyeh Revolutionary Court on charges of “filming military centres”. considering their previous convictions, each of these civilians were each sentenced to a total of 19 years in prison. Per Article 2 of the Islamic Penal Code, up to 15 years of imprisonment sentences are enforceable in law.
