Kurdish civilians Hassan Mardani and Loghman Pishyar have begun serving three-year prison sentences in Bukan, West Azerbaijan Province.

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that the individuals were detained on 30 January after they were summoned to the Enforcement of Judgements Office of Bukan Court.

In December 2023, Branch 101 of the Criminal Court Two in Bukan sentenced Mardani and Pishyar to three years in prison on charges of “acting against national security” for their alleged “membership” of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI).

After initial interrogation, they were transferred to Bukan Prison on 4 October 2023 and released on bail four days later, on 8 October, with a bail of 10 billion rials each – nearly 20,000 USD.
