A landmine explosion in the Nowsud border area of Kermanshah Province injured two kolbars, Mohammad Mirani and Aboubakr Rostamian, in the early hours of 7 March.

Additionally, Ata Hosseini, a 32-year-old kolbar from Paveh, Kermanshah Province, was wounded in the chest by Iranian border guards’ gunfire, while Afshin Nazari, from Salas-e Babajani, Kermanshah Province, was injured in the face after being detained and beaten by border guards in the same border area on 6 March.

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that Mirani suffered a foot amputation at the ankle, while Rostamian, from Marivan in Kurdistan Province, suffered injuries to both legs as a result of the impact of the explosion.

Data collected by the KHRN reveals a disturbing trend, citing incidents in February 2023 when two kolbars – Seyvan Sahihi and Jafar Faraji – were shot dead by Iranian border guards in the border area of Baneh, Kermanshah Province. Additionally, kolbar Farid Roubina succumbed to harsh weather conditions in the border areas of Marivan, Kurdistan Province.
