Authorities in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj, Alborz Province, and Ilam Central Prison in Ilam Province have executed at least five prisoners in the past two days.

Prisoners Sirous Hayatbini, Mohammad Karim Fazeli and Mohammad Reza Rahimpour, who had been sentenced to death on drug-related charges, were executed this morning in Ghezel Hesar Prison.

They had been transferred to solitary confinement the day before in preparation for their executions.

Hayatbini and Fazeli, from Kuhdasht, Lorestan Province, and Rahimpour, from Nurabad, Lorestan Province, were arrested several years ago on drug trafficking charges and subsequently sentenced to death.

Additionally, at least two prisoners, Farrokh-Khan Mohammadi and Reza Gholam-Hosseini, convicted of “premeditated murder”, were executed in Ilam Central Prison on 14 May.

Mohammadi, 60, from the village of Golzar-e Haddad in Ilam, was arrested about 14 years ago, while Gholam-Hosseini, 21, from the village of Ban-e Ziarat in Ilam, was arrested about a year ago.
