Security forces raided the home of the family of Mohammad Hassanzadeh, a protester killed during the Women, Life, Freedom anti-government uprising in Bukan, West Azerbaijan Province, arresting his father and sister.

Ahmad Hassanzadeh and his daughter Solmaz Hassanzadeh were arrested on 30 July as they prepared to commemorate Mohammad’s birthday, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned.

Security forces entered the house without a warrant, assaulted family members and took the father and daughter to an undisclosed location.

Dayeh Azimeh, Mohammad’s mother, was reportedly injured in the beating and taken to Gholipour Hospital in Bukan.

Over the past two years, Ahmad and Solmaz Hassanzadeh have been frequently summoned and detained by the security forces.

Mohammad Hassanzadeh was fatally stabbed during the Women, Life, Freedom protests in Bukan on 16 November 2022.

While the security forces claimed to have arrested a person for his murder, the Hassanzadeh family dismissed this as a fabrication and held the security forces responsible for their son’s death.
