Asaad Espandar, a 24-year-old kolbar from Sardasht, West Azerbaijan Province, has been shot dead by Iranian border guards in the Alut border area of Baneh, Kurdistan Province.

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that in the late hours of 29 August, border guards opened fire on a group of kolbars at close range and without warning, critically wounding Espandar with a bullet that struck his back.

A source familiar with the incident said that border guards delayed the transfer of the injured kolbar to medical facilities in Baneh for several hours. As a result, Espandar died of severe blood loss in the early hours of 30 August.

Espandar was from the village of Quleh Savir in Sardasht.
