Security forces today raided the homes of Siavash Soltani and Ramyar Aboubakri, family members of protesters killed during the Women, Life, Freedom anti-government uprising in Mahabad, West Azerbaijan province, and arrested them without warrants.

At approximately 03:00 local time, security agents forcibly entered the home of the Aboubakri family and detained Ramyar Aboubakri, the 16-year-old brother of Zanyar Aboubakri, who was killed during the Women, Life, Freedom anti-government uprising in Mahabad.

During the arrest, the teenager’s parents were physically assaulted by the security forces.

At the same time, the Soltani family home was raided and Siavash Soltani, the son of Kobra Sheikhe Sagha, who was also killed during the Women, Life, Freedom uprising in Mahabad, was beaten and arrested without a warrant.

There is currently no information on the whereabouts or charges against the two detainees.

Kobra Sheikhe Sagha, 52, and Zanyar Aboubakri, 21, were among those killed during anti-government protests in Mahabad on 27 October 2022, following the funeral of Simko Mowloudi, another protester killed during the protests.
