Following the increasing pressures on labour activists on the eve of International Workers’ Day, at least four Kurdish activists were summoned by the Ministry of Intelligence and the Intelligence Organisation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on 28-29 April.

Activists Mozaffar Salehnia, Sheis Amani, Towfigh Mahmoudi, and Armin Sharifeh were interrogated for several hours and released afterwards.

A labour activist in the city of Sanandaj spoke to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) and said: “On 28 April, Sheis Amani, a member of the Free Union of Iranian Workers, was summoned by telephone to the Intelligence Organization of the IRGC and was interrogated for several hours.”

According to the source, at the same time, Mozaffar Salehnia was summoned to the office of the intelligence ministry in Sanandaj and was interrogated for several hours.

The activist added: “On 29 April, two other Kurdish activists, Ramin Sharifeh and Towfigh Mahmoudi, were summoned by the intelligence ministry in Sanandaj and were interrogated for several hours. These labour activists were threatened that they could not participate in International Workers’ Day.”

In the past few weeks, labour activists were pressured in various cities and nearly 10 Kurdish labour activists were detained by security forces in the cities of Baneh and Tehran.
