On Friday, November 7, Iran Border Guards opened fire on a group of Kurdish border porters–known as Kolbar- at close range in borders of Chaldoran district of West Azerbaijan province that resulted in the death of a 41-year-old Kolbar named Hassan Dalaei.

“A group of Kolbars, who were carrying cigarettes on horseback to a village in Turkish Kurdistan, were ambushed by Amoo Khanz border guards at 4 pm on 5 November in the border area of Elgan Chaldoran. After surrendering the group, the guards shot at them from the close range, as a result of which a Kolbar named Hassan Delaei Milan was killed by three bullets.”, a local source told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

The source identified Hassan Dalayi Milan, a 38-year-old man and father of three children, from Qashqablagh village.

Dozens of villagers went to the scene of the shooting following the incident, but the guards also fired at the people and did not allow anyone to approach the shooting site for an hour. Finally, after the gathering of the people, the body of this Kolbar was transferred to Chaldoran forensic medicine by the villagers and was handed over to the family after the administrative process, the source added.

According to the source, at least two horses were killed during the incident.”A number of civilians are easily killed by the border guards every year, and people are discouraged from taking legal action in these cases because the judiciary system supports the border guards”, the source said in response to the question whether the family of Kolbar had filed a complaint against the border guards or not.

Earlier on November 3, a group of Kolbar from the village of “Rawian” in the city of Khoy in the province of West Azerbaijan were shot by border guards. As a result of this incident, a Kolbar “Chavosh (Siavash) Korhosani”, a member of the council of the village of Rawian, was killed.
