Branch 1 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Baneh, Kurdistan province, has sentenced social media activist Ebrahim Shouriani to seven months in prison.
The court has charged Shouriani, also known by the nickname Shoresh, with “propaganda activities against the Islamic Republic by publishing images and content online”.
Shouriani is the admin of the ‘Prsa u Sarakhoshiakani Baneh’ telegram channel. The channel publishes information on the deaths and funerals of residents of Baneh.
Today, 17 October, the court notified Shouriani of the sentence it issued in absentia on 12 October.
On 9 December 2020, security forces detained the activist in Baneh.
They took him to the detention centre of the Intelligence Organisation of the Ministry of Intelligence in Sanandaj, Kurdistan province.
After 72 days of interrogation, he was temporarily released on a bail of 200 million Iranian Tomans – approximately 8,000 USD.
