Kurdish civil rights activist Shadman Bani-Bashar has served his sentence of six months and has been released from Sanandaj Central Prison on 24 February, sources told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).


Shadman Bani-Bashr, who is also a member of the Chalchameh mountaineering group, was arrested by security forces at his workplace on 24 January 2020. After 45 days of detention, he was released on a bail of 150 million Iranian Tomans – nearly 5,900 USD.


In May 2020, Bani-Bashar was sentenced to one year in prison by Branch 1 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj on charges of “propaganda against the state”. After his appeal against the court ruling, Branch 4 of the Court of Appeals reduced his sentence to six months in prison.


Bani-Bashar was sent to Sanandaj Central Prison on 11 October 2020 to serve his six-month sentence.
