A woman prisoner named Sahar F. and her 12-year-old daughter, Tina F. were tied to beds in the infirmary of Mashhad prison for 24 hours as a “punishment” by order of the prison authorities.

Reportedly, the “punishment” came after the mother and daughter had a verbal argument with prison officers.

The two civilians from Tehran were arrested at the Mashhad bus terminal on 18 July due to arguing with a bus driver and insulting police officers.

On 3 August, they were taken to the prison infirmary and were handcuffed and tied to infirmary beds until the evening of the next day. They were then taken back to the prison ward.

Sahar F. has been accused of “fighting with government officers” and “insulting the authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran”.
