Galawezh Mohammadi-Arshad was arrested by security forces on 14 August 2024 in the Bagh-e Shayegan neighbourhood of Mahabad, West Azerbaijan Province, and taken to an undisclosed location.

She was arrested without a warrant and was denied the right to meet with her family or have access to legal representation during her detention.

Mohammadi-Arshad was provisionally released from Orumiyeh Central Prison on bail of seven billion rials (nearly 10,000 USD).
