The detention of two Kurdish civilians, Salam Soltani and Amir Fagheh, who have been held in an uncertain state in Naqadeh Prison in West Azerbaijan Province, has been extended for another month, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned.

Soltani and Fagheh were arrested by the Ministry of Intelligence on 6 May and 22 May, respectively, in the village of Khoranj in Piranshahr, West Azerbaijan Province, and taken to the Ministry’s detention facility in Orumiyeh, West Azerbaijan Province.

The two men were subjected to physical and psychological torture for 20 days in order to extract forced confessions.

During this period, they were also denied access to legal representation and family visits.

In mid-June, at the end of their interrogation, the two men were transferred to Naqadeh Prison.

In recent days, however, the Piranshahr court extended their detention for another month.

The specific charges against Soltani and Fagheh remain unknown.
