Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN): Ali Yeganeh, a Kurdish political prisoner detained at the Orumiyeh Central Prison, was released after serving four years and nine months in prison.

KHRN has been informed that, this Kurdish civilian from Khoy was arrested by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) on August 30, 2014 at the border area of Orumiyeh. He was transferred to the youth ward of the Orumiyeh Central Prison after several weeks of interrogation at the Ministry of Intelligence Detention Centre and he was deprived of the right to leave during the entire period of his imprisonment.

On July 29, 2016, the trial of Ali Yeganeh was held at Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court of Orumiyeh, chaired by Ali Shikhloo, and he was sentenced to five years of imprisonment on charges of cooperating with one of the Kurdish opposition parties. Due to the fact that this political prisoner did not contest the verdict against him and per the law of Submission to the Ruling, his sentence was finally reduced to three years and nine months in prison. He was sentenced to one year in prison in another case on charges of illegally leaving the border by the Branch 101 General Court although he had been arrested on Iranian soil.
