A court in northwestern Orumiyeh has summoned and imprisoned Kurdish civilian Abdolaziz Gol-Mohammadi in Orumiyeh Central Prison for retrial.

Gol-Mohammadi was previously sentenced to jail, but the Supreme Court had overturned the ruling. His imprisonment last week comes at a time that his case has not yet been re-examined.

On 3 February, Branch 3 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Orumiyeh sentenced Gol-Mohammadi to 10 years and one day in prison. The court charged the civilian with “acting against national security” through “membership in the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan”.

Later, Branch 41 of the Supreme Court overturned the verdict and referred the case to another branch of the same level in the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Orumiyeh.

Security forces arrested Gol-Mohammadi and four other civilians Kamran Ghassemi, Keyvan Rashozadeh, Omid Saeidi, and Nayeb Hajipour, on 2 October 2019. They were then taken to the detention centre of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Orumiyeh.

After two months of interrogation in this detention facility, the five civilians were transferred to Orumiyeh Central Prison.

In February, they were each sentenced to 10 years and one day in prison in a joint case on charges of “membership in the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan”.

Also, on 26 January, Abdolaziz Gol-Mohammadi was released on bail of one billion Iranian Tomans – nearly 40,000 USD.
