Kurdish prisoners of conscience Mohyeddin Ebrahimi and Mohyeddin Tazehvared, both sentenced to death, were transferred from the ward for political prisoners in Orumiyeh Central Prison, in West Azerbaijan province, to an undisclosed location for unknown reasons on 26 October.
As the Iranian Supreme Court had upheld their death sentences, there is fear that they would be executed soon.
Security forces also transferred another religious prisoner, Davoud Jabbari, along with these prisoners from the political prisoners’ ward.
On 3 November 2017, the Intelligence Organisation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) detained Ebrahimi after shooting and injuring him in a village in Oshnavieh, West Azerbaijan province.
After his detention, he was transferred to the detention centre of the Intelligence Organisation of the IRGC in Orumiyeh.
The political prisoner was interrogated and severely tortured for his alleged “membership in a Kurdish opposition party”.
On 20 August 2018, Branch 2 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Orumiyeh, presided over by Judge Ali Sheikhlou, held his trial while denying him access to a lawyer.
Later, Ebrahimi appealed against the ruling, and the sentence was referred to Branch 19 of the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court overturned the ruling pointing out the “lack of investigation” in the case.
It referred the case back to Branch 2 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Orumiyeh.
In January 2009, the court sentenced the political prisoner once again to the death penalty.
Ebrahimi, 40, is married and comes from Oshnavieh.
Separately, In July 2020, Branch 2 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Orumiyeh also sentenced Sunni Kurdish prisoner of conscience Mohyeddin Tazehvared to the death penalty.
It charged the prisoner with “membership in Salafi groups”.
On 28 October 2018, security forces detained Tazehvard in Oshnavieh.
They transferred him to Orumiyeh Central Prison after interrogating him in the detention centre of the Ministry of Intelligence of the city.
