There has been an increase since 26 September in the number of prisoners transferred from Orumiyeh Central Prison to a security detention centre in Orumiyeh, West Azerbaijan province.

On 26 September, security forces transferred prisoners of conscience Mohyeddin Ebrahimi, Mohyeddin Tazehvared, and Davoud Jabbari to a security detention centre.

Furthermore, recently, security forces transferred at least two political prisoners, Ebrahim Khalil Sedigh Hamedani and Salar Khalil Sedigh Hamedani, and three non-political prisoners, Farzin Ghaderi, Amir Mohammadi, and Kamal Khakzad, to a security detention centre in the city.

Sources told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) that the transfers took place following changes in the administration of the security institutions in Orumiyeh.

The changes suggest a new round of pressures and filing new cases by the Ministry of Intelligence and the Intelligence Organisation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) about more prisoners.

In the scope of the new changes, the head of the special office of the intelligence ministry in Orumiyeh Central Prison has changed in recent days.

Due to the high number of Kurdish political prisoners in Orumiyeh Central Prison compared to other prisons in Iran, the intelligence ministry has established a special office in prison.

Officials of this office play an active role in filing new cases on, threatening, and torturing political and non-political prisoners.

The recently transferred prisoners include Mohyeddin Ebrahimi and Mohyeddin Tazehvared, who have been sentenced to the death penalty on charges of “armed insurrection” (baghi). The Supreme Court had also upheld their sentences.

Concerns over the risk of execution of these prisoners have increased with their sudden transfers without any evidence.
