Death row prisoners Ali Doudkanlou, Ramin Shirzad, and Jalal Taheri were transferred today to solitary confinement at Orumiyeh Central Prison, in north-western Iran, for execution.
These prisoners were sentenced to the death penalty on charges of “premeditated murder”.
Prison authorities told the prisoners that their death sentences would be executed on 1 March if they did not obtain the consent of the families of the victims, Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned.
The civilians were sentenced to death under the Islamic law of qisas or retribution-in-kind, which grants the right to retaliate to the victim’s family.
In the past week, Iran executed at least three other Kurdish prisoners who were previously sentenced to death for “premeditated murder” in Ilam and Sanandaj prisons.
Moslem Moradi was executed at Sanandaj Central Prison on 20 February, Mohammad Rasoul Cholaki at Ilam Central Prison on 22 February, and Hamid Rahimi at Sanandaj Central Prison on 26 February, KHRN has learned.
