Branch 1 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Mahabad has sentenced Kurdish political prisoner Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini to 40 years in prison and internal exile to Orumiyeh Central Prison on charges of “enmity against God” through membership in the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (KDPI).

Sources told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) that Hosseini was officially summoned to the Enforcement of Judgements Office of Naqadeh Prison and informed about the sentence.

The last court hearing of the political prisoner was held in April in Branch 1 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Mahabad, presided over by Judge Javad Gholami.

Seyyed Mohammad Hosseini, a resident of Naqadeh, West Azerbaijan province, left the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and returned to Iran in 2017 after separating from the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (KDPI) and receiving safe-conduct from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). However, he was detained several months later, and since then, has been held first in the detention centre of the Intelligence Organisation of the IRGC and then in Naqadeh Prison without a court order.

Another Kurdish political prisoner named Mohammad Moradi was also sentenced to 40 years in prison and internal exile in Orumiyeh Central Prison on similar charges on 12 May.
