Behrouz Chamanara, former head of the Kurdistan Studies Institute and assistant professor of the Department of Kurdish Language and Literature at Kurdistan University, was temporarily released today on bail after 10 days in detention.

On 25 November, forces of the Ministry of Intelligence abducted Chamanara on his way to his house in Sanandaj, Kurdistan province.

There was no information about his condition and whereabouts during his detention.

Chamanara’s elderly parents, whose other son Sassan Chamanara is also in detention, had staged a sit-in protest at the University of Kurdistan in Sanandaj along with a group of students and professors for the past few days.

The detention order of the Kurdish artist Sassan Chamanara has been extended until 21 December.

He was detained on 8 October by the security forces on Abuzar Street in Tehran and was transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison.

The artist suffered a torn knee ligament due to the baton blows of the security officers during his detention. The marks of torture on his body are still visible.

Following the fire that took place in Evin prison after the beginning of the nationwide protests, he was transferred to Fashafouyeh Prison [also known as The Greater Tehran Central Penitentiary].
