Prisoners Eghbal Fathollahi, Mohsen Emraei, and Shahram Mohammad-Beygi were executed today on charges related to “drug trafficking” and “premeditated murder” in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj, Alborz Province, and Ilam Central Prison in Ilam Province.

Emraei, Fathollahi and a third prisoner, whose identity remains unknown, were transferred to solitary confinement in Ghezel Hesar Prison on 27 November.

Fathollahi, from Ilam, and Emraei, from Kuhdasht in Lorestan Province, were arrested about five years ago on joint charges of “drug trafficking”, which led to their death sentences.

At the same time, Mohammad-Beygi, a sportsman from Ilam and Iranian desert trekking youth champion, who was arrested on 11 September 2021 on charges of “premeditated murder”, was executed in Ilam Central Prison.

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) had released a report on 16 February 2021 detailing Mohammad-Beygi’s torture by the authorities and his subsequent hunger strike.
