Kurdish civilian Fereshteh Hosseini today began serving an eight-month prison sentence in Orumiyeh Central Prison, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned.

In February, Branch 101 of the Criminal Court of Bukan, West Azerbaijan Province, sentenced Hosseini to eight months in prison on charges of “propaganda against the state”, which was later upheld by the West Azerbaijan Province Court of Appeal in November.

Hosseini was arrested by security forces in her hometown of Bukan on 24 August 2022, and was provisionally released from Orumiyeh Central Prison on 11 September after 18 days on bail of one billion rials – nearly 2,000 USD.

Today, she was sent to Orumiyeh Central Prison after being summoned to the Bukan Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office.
