Jawhar Faraji, a 28-year-old Kolbar from Saqqez, Kurdistan Province, who was seriously injured by Iranian border guards’ shotgun fire at the Hangeh-ye Zhal border area in Baneh, Kurdistan Province, two weeks ago, has lost his left leg to amputation.

On 13 January, border guards shot Faraji at close range with shotguns, and he was rushed to a medical facility in Tehran for treatment after being shot in the left leg.

Despite several operations, doctors were forced to amputate his leg on 24 January.

According to statistics compiled by the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN), between 21 December and 21 January, border guards fatally shot kolbars Ahmad Sadeghi, Shoresh Khargoushi, Mirza Ahmadi and Sadegh Mirzaei in the border areas of Baneh, Kurdistan Province, and Nowsud, Kermanshah Province.

Additionally, KHRN data indicates that at least 41 kolbars were injured during this period, either by being shot or beaten by the forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the border areas of West Azerbaijan, Kurdistan and Kermanshah provinces. Another kolbar was injured after falling from a height on a kolbar route.
