Rasoul Galehban, a Kurdish journalist and manager of the Urmiye 24 news outlet, was summoned and arrested by the Cyber Police in Orumiyeh, West Azerbaijan Province, on 7 April.

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that Galehban was arrested after the Orumiyeh Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office filed a complaint regarding the city’s Newroz (also known as Nowruz in Persian) celebrations.

The specific charges against Galehban and the location of his detention remain unknown.

According to reports, several Kurdish civil rights and cultural activists in Orumiyeh have also been summoned by the Cyber Police in connection with complaints filed by the city prosecutor regarding the Newroz celebrations.
