A landmine explosion has killed one man and injured two others while they were collecting spring herbs in the Kileh Shin heights of Oshnavieh, West Azerbaijan Province, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned.

Esmail Azouzameh, 37, a father of three, died at the scene and his companions, brothers Seyyed Hadi Mousavi, 26, and Seyyed Hemin Mousavi, 27, were injured in the explosion.

The incident highlights the ongoing danger of landmines in the region, left over from the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s. Last month, another Kurdish civilian, Akhtar Moradi, was killed in Gilan-e-Gharb, Kermanshah Province, and Keyvan Haromaydoli was injured in Saqqez, Kurdistan Province, due to similar explosions.
