Hossein Khosravi and Soleyman Adhami, two Sunni Kurdish clerics, and religious activist Hiwa Nouri, who are currently being held in Orumiyeh Central Prison in West Azerbaijan Province, have been charged with “armed insurrection” (baghi).
Khosravi and Adhami, imams of mosques in villages near Baneh and Bukan, and Nouri were arrested by the Ministry of Intelligence forces in Bukan, West Azerbaijan Province, on 29 and 30 January 2024 and transferred to the Ministry’s detention centre in Orumiyeh.
During their over three-month detention in the security facility, the three activists were tortured by interrogators to extract forced confessions and were then transferred to Orumiyeh Central Prison.
In recent months, the activists have been formally charged with “armed insurrection” (baghi), “membership of the terrorist group Ansar al-Sunna” and “propaganda against the state”.
Their indictment was sent to Branch One of the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Orumiyeh.
According to statistics compiled by the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN), at least 11 Kurdish civilians and activists are currently being held in a state of uncertainty in various Iranian prisons, accused of “armed insurrection” (baghi) and “enmity against God” (moharebeh).
