Following further arrest of Kurdish activists in various cities of Kurdistan, Zanyar Zemiran, a former deputy of the Kurdistan branch of National Unity Party was arrested and transferred to the Ministry of Intelligence Detention Centre.

Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has been informed that Zanyar Zemiran, a former deputy of the Kurdistan branch of National Unity Party, was arrested at his workplace, the Directorate General for Regional Water Kurdistan by security agents on January 6, 2019. He was then taken to his home which was searched by security agents who transferred him to the Ministry of Intelligence Detention Centre in Sanandaj while confiscating a number of his personal belongings.

In addition to carrying out political and civil activities, he has held various posts such as the Cultural Advisor to the Regional Water Company of Kurdistan, the secretary of the Nonprofit Defence and Crisis Management Committee of Kurdistan Regional Water Company, the Secretary of the Committee on Dam Safety and Sustainability of Kurdistan Province, member of the Central Council of the Academic Research Organization of Civil Engineering Students across the country, Secretary of the Permanent Secretariat of the Conferences by Civil Engineering Students throughout the country, and Secretary of the University of Water and Electrical Engineering First graduate conference.

Prior to the arrest of the above-mentioned activist, a total of 10 civilians and environmental activists have been arrested by Sanandaj security forces in the cities of Kamyaran and Sanandaj during the past week. These detainees have been transferred to the Ministry of Intelligence Detention Centre for interrogation.

Yesterday, KHRN expressed strong concerns over the continued and prolonged arrests of Kurdish activists as well as the intense violence towards them during their arrest, the poor situation in which they are kept and the way they are treated in addition to the likelihood of arresting and prosecuting them on account of security allegations.
