Branch 1 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Orumiyeh last week sentenced Kurdish civilians Anvar Chaleshi and Kamel Jabarvand (Saydan Maskan) to seven years in prison each.

The court charged the civilians with “acting against national security” through “membership in the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (KDPI)”.

On 2 December 2020, the Intelligence Organisation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) arrested them and another civilian named Mousa Alousi.

IRGC forces took the civilians to the detention centre of the institution in the al-Mahdi base in Orumiyeh, West Azerbaijan province.

While Mousa Alousi was later released on bail, Chaleshi and Jabarvand were imprisoned in Orumiyeh Central Prison on 8 January 2021 after their interrogation ended.

After the detention of the civilians at the time, the IRGC’s Hamzeh Seyyed al-Shohada base issued a statement saying it had arrested several members of a Kurdish opposition party.

Anvar Chaleshi is a resident of Lowrzini village, and Kamel Jabarvand (Seydan Maskan) is from Cherik Abad village in Margavar, Orumiyeh.

Mousa Alousi comes from Valindeh-ye Olya village in Orumiyeh.
