Two political prisoners known as Seyyed Sami Hosseini and Siamak Ashrafi are still on hunger strike due to the refusal of authorities to grant them their basic rights, such as the right to contact the family and to transfer him to the political ward.

Siamak Ashrafi, a Kurdish political prisoner detained at the youth ward of Orumiyeh Central Prison, sewed his lips. This political prisoner has been on hunger strike since Thursday, Nov 23, 2017, in protest to the refusal of authorities to transfer him to the political ward.

“On Tuesday, Nov 28, 2017, Siamak Ashrafi, a Kurdish political prisoner sewed his lips on the sixth day of his hunger strike and announced that he had gone on hunger strike due to the lack of accountability of the authorities of Orumiyeh Prison. Prison authorities have told the political prisoner that even if the hunger strike would lead to his death, they would not agree to his request for a transfer to the political ward.” An informed source told Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

“Contrary to the common procedures, authorities of Orumiyeh Central Prison have refused to accept the request the request of this prisoner after his official announcement that he had gone on hunger strike. Instead, they have threatened him to stop his hunger strike to avoid further consequences”., the source added.

“This political prisoner, who has been on hunger strike since Thursday, Nov 23, 2017, was once transferred to the clinic of Choobindar’s Prison but he was later transferred back to the ward after doctors controlled his blood pressure,” the source added regarding the latest situation of the other prisoner known as Sami Hosseini.

“Prison doctors have been asking this political prisoner to stop his hunger strike and promised him that they would personally follow his requests. However, he has stated that he will continue his hunger strike until he had been given a telephone card as other prisoners,” the source said.

Siamak Ashrafi (the Kurdish citizen residing in Orumiyeh) was sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment by Judge Sheikhlou at Orumiyeh Revolutionary Court (branch 2) on charges of cooperating with the Kurdish parties. Siamak Ashrafi has been in jail since a year ago.

“Seyed Semi Hosseini, a Kurdish political prisoner, was arrested on Dec 4, 2008, by security forces in Salmas, and has now been sentenced to 25 years in jail for a number of separate cases.
