Kurdistan Human Rights Network )KHRN): New charges have been filed against the Kurdish political prisoner, Kamran Darwishi, at Branch 1 of Public Prosecutor’s Office in Orumiyeh where the prisoner was also present. The two new charges of disrupting public order and blasphemy were explained to the prisoner.
According to the information obtained by KHRN, these new charges were brought forward following new meaures for putting pressure on political prisoners held in Orumiyeh Central Prison. Earlier Four Kurdish political prisoners in the Orumiyeh Central Prison- Hamid Rahimi, Touraj Ismaili, Kamal Hassan Ramadan and Ahmad Tumouei- were transferred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office on March 2, 2019 and new charges were explained to them.
The prison’s Special Forces insulted the Kurdish political prisoner, Hamid Rahimi, on October 5, 2018, This insult led to a massive protest at the political ward, which lasted for several hours. On Oct 16, 2018, 71 political prisoners went on a one-week hunger strike in protest to the beating of some of the political prisoners by prison authorities and prisoners of dangerous crimes in addition to deprivation of prisoners of conscience and political prisoners from furlough right.
Kamran Darwishi, a Kurdish civilian from Orumiyeh, was arrested by security forces in Orumiyeh on May 2, 2016. He was interrogated for two months at the Ministry of Intelligence Detention Centre in Orumiyeh. In November, he was sentenced to 5 years in prison by the Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court of Orumiyeh, chaired by Judge Sheikhlo, on charges of cooperating with one of the Kurdish opposition parties.
