Esmaeil Maroufi, a retired Kurdish teacher, was arrested on 9 July 2024 during a raid by security forces on his family home in Piranshahr, West Azerbaijan Province.
He was taken to a security detention centre in Orumiyeh and transferred to Naqadeh prison after a few days.
On 18 July, he was provisionally released from Naqadeh Prison on bail of 10 billion rials (nearly 20,000 USD).
There is no information available about the charges against Maroufi.
