Arrest

Asaad Mohammadi (Masoud Mohammadi) was arrested by security forces at his family home in the Vilashahr neighbourhood of Sanandaj, Kurdistan Province, on 24 July 2023 and was taken to one of the city’s security detention centres.

The arrest was carried out without a warrant, and the security agents took several of his personal belongings during the house search.

On 12 August 2023, security forces also detained his wife, Bahar Ahmadi, for several weeks.

After a few months, Mohammadi was temporarily released on bail.

Judicial Process

Mohammadi was sentenced to one year in prison on charges of “propaganda against the state” by Branch One of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj, presided over by Judge Ali Saeidi.

Current Status

On 6 February 2024, he was arrested again after presenting himself at the Enforcement of Judgements Office of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Sanandaj and sent to Sanandaj Central Prison to serve his sentence.

1. Article 500 of the Islamic Penal Code: “Anyone who engages in propaganda activities against the Islamic Republic of Iran or in favour of groups and organisations opposing the state, in any manner, shall be sentenced to imprisonment for a period of three months to one year.”
